The Ministry of Communication and Digitalization will host the ‘Girls-In-ICT’ project in Damongo, the capital of Savannah Region on the 8th to 9th May 2023.
Speaking when she visited the studio of Bole based Nkilgi Fm, the Public Relation Officer of the Ministry of Communication & Digilization Madam Naa Korkor said the Ministry is in Savannah region to ensure that young girls take up career courses in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
She disclosed that the “Girls-In-ICT” is an initiative of the International Communication Union (ICU) adopted and expanded by the Minister of Communications and Digitalization Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekaful.
Madam Naa Korkor Esai further said all will attest to the fact that the ICT industry is full of men, therefore, the aim of the initiative is to ensure that every girl child everywhere benefits from ICT education as well.
She added that, so far a total of thousand girls have been trained in ICT and on the 8th and 9th of May 2023, the project “Girls-In-ICT” will be brought to a conclusion at the Damongo community center.
Highlighting on the schedule of the programme, she said, 8th May,2023 will be the mentorship session where the Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Hon Ursula Owusu Ekaful will chair the program to ensure that the girls are educated on ICT. She added; “so far the girls have been trained in Coding, Basic computer skills and E-safety.” Adding that, the girls have been introduced to cyber security to protect them a s they use or surf the internet.
Madam Naa Korkor admonished the general public to join the project to learn more about the “Girls in ICT” .
She said, the outstanding girls who excel most will be given gifts such as labtops, ICT labs, plaques, Certificates of participation and cash prizes.
Madam Naa Korkor Esai added that the initiative faced some challenges because a lot of these girls are not exposed to computers but so far it’s been very good.
“I interviewed a number of thes students and their level of fluency of what they learnt is very amazing, I encourage the public to check on the Ministries social media handles to view the testimony given by Savannah region representers.
“However the are some girls who are afraid or scared of computers and these girls need to be encouraged by their parents and stakeholders to take ICT as a class course and career because ICT is not ment for only men.”
