The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole, Hon. Abdulai Mahamud, has issued stern warnings to residents who engage in the reckless dumping of refuse in front or behind their homes.

The caution follows the district’s participation in the National Sanitation Day exercise held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, as part of the nationwide initiative introduced by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to promote cleanliness across the country on the first Saturday of every month.

Speaking after the cleanup exercise in Bole, Hon. Abdulai Mahamud described the government’s initiative as a top-notch decision aimed at reducing diseases caused by poor sanitation and indiscriminate waste disposal.

The DCE encouraged residents to sustain the exercise by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings after putting in the effort to clean them.

He said:
“After you clean, what is next? You keep it. Keep cleaning your place. So we advise our citizens to keep on cleaning their own environment, then safeguard the environment that everybody should clean.”

Hon. Mahamud also disclosed that the Bole District Assembly has introduced by-laws to regulate and control the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in residential and business areas.

He warned:
“We have put in place by-laws from now that whoever flouts them in terms of our sanitation rules, we will know how to deal with them as and when it is.”

The DCE revealed that the National Sanitation Day exercise will be decentralized across the district, particularly in major communities prone to excessive waste accumulation.

“The district is very big, very, very big, and for that matter, we are not going to concentrate on Bole township alone. The next one we will select a community, especially the bigger ones that generate a lot of waste,” he said.

He added that the assembly will continue to visit various communities on the first Saturday of every month to clean up, tackle waste challenges, and educate residents on proper waste management practices.

According to him, the National Sanitation Day also fosters social cohesion, bringing people together beyond political affiliations to work collectively toward community development.

He emphasized that the exercise offers residents an avenue to express concerns about issues hindering community growth while promoting peace and harmony.

Still on sanitation efforts, Hon. Mahamud revealed that the assembly has launched an initiative called “Operation Clean Your Frontage”, which will be supported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through public education.

He explained that although the cleanup was announced at short notice leading to low participation among some shop owners but announced that future exercises would require all shops to close temporarily so that everyone can participate from start to finish.

Finally, the DCE cautioned that anyone who violates the sanitation by-laws will face prosecution.

“The court will be implementing the by-laws, and if anybody flouts them, they will face the law severely,” he stated.
