A new Police Post has been commissioned at Dakurpe in the Bole District of the Savannah Region, marking a major step toward enhancing community policing and security in the area.
The facility, constructed by COGINTA, a non-governmental organization, was officially inaugurated on November 26, 2025.
The project was funded by the European Union (EU) as part of broader efforts to strengthen resilience against insecurity and violent extremism in northern border communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Country Director of COGINTA, Rev. Dr. Clement Aappengnuo, said the Dakurpe Police Post is one of three recently constructed under the initiative, with the others located at Nahuyili in the North East Region and Gbingbini in the Northern Region.

He said the facilities and accompanying equipment are “essential tools that will enhance community policing by fostering trust and improving the safety and well-being of communities that rely on the Ghana Police Service for protection.”
Dr. Aappengnuo highlighted the successes of the Peace Protect Project, which COGINTA has been implementing in partnership with the Ghana Police Service. Under the project, 184 officers have received training in community policing strategies, 75 motorbikes have been donated to support patrols and emergency response, and seven police posts have been constructed across the five northern border regions.
He disclosed that the total investment amounts to EUR 975,990 (approximately GH₵14 million), funded by the European Union. He stressed that maintaining security is a shared responsibility, adding that the new post and motorbike support in Dakurpe will promote faster response times and stronger community–police collaboration.
The Director General of the National Patrol Department, COP Suraji Fuseini Mohammed, described the commissioning as “the beginning of a new era of public safety for Dakurpe and the entire Bole District.”
He said the police post represents more than a physical structure, serving as a central hub for engagement between community members and the police. He noted that its presence will strengthen peaceful coexistence and reinforce security efforts.
COP Fuseini emphasized that peace is essential to all aspects of life, stating, “Without peace, the farmer cannot go to the farm, the hunter cannot go hunting, neither can the sick go to the hospital.Even transport services would be affected because insecurity cripples every segment of society.”
He explained that since March 2024, COGINTA-Ghana and the Ghana Police Service, with EU support, have been rolling out community policing strategies to curb violent extremism in hotspot areas across the Upper West, Northern, North East, Savannah, and Upper East regions, which share borders with Burkina Faso, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire.
He urged officers posted to Dakurpe to remain disciplined, maintain the facility, use dialogue to resolve issues, and engage regularly with community elders to build trust and gather credible information.
The Assemblyman for the Kabilma Electoral Area, Hon. Mohammed Abubakari, expressed appreciation to COGINTA, the Ghana Police Service, and the EU for the intervention. He said the new police post will significantly improve security and reduce the burden on residents who previously had to travel to Bole for police services.
He pledged to support the upkeep of the facility and called on residents to avoid violence and cooperate with the police, especially when assisting with investigations.
