The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I), has directed the Brifor and Lobi settlers in the Gonja area to perform customary pacification rites to cleanse and restore peace to lands affected by the recent Gbinyiri conflict, which claimed several lives.

In his directive, the Yagbonwura instructed the Brefo-Lobi community to present specific ritual items to pacify the disturbed lands. These include seven white cocks, seven rams, seven goats, 100 cows, seven bowls of white kola nuts, one carton of schnapps, and one hundred thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵100,000).

The announcement followed a visit to the Jakpa Palace on Friday, November 7, 2025, by a high-powered delegation comprising the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-awurbi; Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yussif Sulemana; and NDC Savannah Regional Chairman, Alhaji Seidu Imoro.

The group accompanied Brifor and Lobi leaders to seek forgiveness and reconciliation after the violent clashes in the Gbinyiri area of the Bole Traditional Area.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hon. Yussif Sulemana disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama had mandated regional leaders to facilitate peace-building efforts in the conflict zone.

He said;
“The Brefo-Lobi group came to the Yagbonwura to apologize and show remorse for what happened between them and the Gonjas. His Majesty has forgiven them but emphasized the need for traditional pacification as a symbol of reconciliation and healing”.

The Bole MP expressed appreciation to the Yagbonwura for his wisdom and leadership in restoring calm, adding that sustainable peace is key to development in the region. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stability through ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Wenchi–Bamboi–Bole–Sawla–Tuna–Wa Road.

Apostle Dr. Moses Sansa Kongon, a member of the Brefo-Lobi delegation, described the meeting as a turning point toward enduring peace.

He disclosed that,
“The King received us warmly and accepted our plea for forgiveness. We are grateful for his magnanimity and are committed to ensuring that such conflicts never occur again”.

Apostle Kongon also appealed to displaced persons to return home, assuring them that peace had been restored under the Yagbonwura’s guidance.

The Yagbonwura’s directive represents a significant step toward healing, reconciliation, and unity in the Bole Traditional Area. The upcoming pacification ceremony is expected to serve as both a spiritual cleansing and a symbol of renewed harmony between the Gonja people and the Brefo-Lobi settlers.
