President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mahama Haruna, a prominent media practitioner from the Savannah Region, as a Presidential Aide.
Mahama Haruna will serve in the Office of the Minister of State, Special Initiative, at the Presidency, bringing his extensive experience in media, community engagement, and development communication to bear.
The Ministry of Special Initiatives is the government arm tasked with rolling out the president’s flagship projects and fast‑tracking local‑level development. Its core mandate is to design and implement policies, plans and programmes that address unemployment, poverty and infrastructure gaps, especially in rural and underserved areas.
With a strong background in grassroots mobilisation and a deep understanding of the socio-political landscape, Mahama Haruna is expected to support strategic initiatives that focus on inclusive development, public sensitization, and amplifying government policies and programmes, especially in underserved regions.
Mahama Haruna’s appointment which has resonated well with the people of Savannah Region is seen as a recognition of his unwavering dedication to President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the years Mahama .
His efforts on the ground in the Savannah Region and beyond have been instrumental in ensuring electoral success for H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC since 2012. His consistent dedication to grassroots mobilization, media advocacy, and message amplification through platforms like Nkilgi FM in Savannah Region, has made him a key figure in shaping political discourse and rallying support for the party across the region and beyond.
Mahama Haruna who is known to be a “darling boy” of President John Dramani Mahama at his home of Bole has over two decades of experience in mass communication as a Journalist and is the General Manager of the award winning Bole based Nkilgi Fm.
He is a former National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) General Secretary.
He is currently the Paga branch Manager of Nick TC- Scan, a company that provides cargo scanning services for the purpose of Non Intrusive Inspection and has branches at the Kotoka International Airport, Takoradi Harbour, Aflao and Paga borders.
Mahama Haruna is a product of the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Kumasi; the N.J. Ahmadiyya Teacher Training College, Wa; the Ghana Institute of Journalism (now the University of Media, Arts and Communication- Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) and holds an M.A. in Development Economics.
