The Savannah Regional Minister Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe has unveiled a comprehensive blueprint for educational development in the region following the victory of the NDC and the election of H.E. John Dramani Mahama as President of the Republic.

The minister made the announcement during a social media engagement held at his office at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council in Damongo on Monday 3rd November, 2025.

According to Mr Be-Awuribe, government has prioritized education as a key driver of development in the Savannah Region, with several major projects already approved or underway.

He disclosed that Damongo, the regional capital, will soon host a Catholic University of Science and Technology following a $30 million donation to the Catholic Diocese for its establishment.

This he said will become the second university in Damongo after President Mahama’s directive for the construction of a Technical University in the area.

The Savannah Regional minister also announced that the Daboya Savannah College of Education, initially established by a private individual, has now been fully absorbed into the public education system.

He noted thay staff of the college have been enrolled under the GTEC framework with full government benefits.

He said several infrastructure projects will be undertaken at the college, including the construction of male and female hostel blocks, a lecture hall complex, a three storey 18-unit classroom block, an ultra-modern auditorium, a two storey library and ICT block, a dining hall with kitchen, residences for the principal and vice principal, staff flats and quarters, a two storey administration block, a fence wall and paved compound.

The Savannah Regional minister further revealed that the abandoned Teacher Training College in Bole at Doli will be revamped to meet current educational standards.

Hon. Be-Awuribe also announced plans for the first ever Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school in the Savannah Region, to be constructed at Tinga in the Bole District.

He said the school will have two science laboratory blocks, three storey male and female dormitory blocks, a library complex, administration block, staff flats, assembly and dining halls each with a capacity of 2,500, residences for the principal and vice principal, and fully furnished laboratories among other facilities.

Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe disclosed that letters have been received for the award of contracts to upgrade several senior high schools across the region.

He said the Sawla Senior High School will benefit from between five and seven new structures to help upgrade it from a Category C school to Category B, and ultimately to Category A.

He said the Damongo Senior High School, one of the oldest in the region, will also receive major infrastructure upgrades to attain full Category A status.

The Savannah Regional minister added that the Salaga Secondary and T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary schools, which are both Category C institutions, will equally benefit from infrastructure improvements to elevate them to Category A level.

He said an ultra-modern Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) school will also be established in Salaga, with sod-cutting for the project already done on November 1, 2025.

Mr Be-Awuribe announced the establishment of the first public all girls secondary school in the region to be located at Busunu in the West Gonja Municipality.

He emphasized the project has been approved by the President and funded through GETFund, will be constructed as a STEM model girls’ secondary school.

He said it will have a two-storey administration block, a two-storey library center, two dormitory blocks with courtyards, a 2,500-capacity dining hall with kitchen, ten two-bedroom staff quarters, a sickbay, a three-bedroom headmistress bungalow, a two-storey science laboratory block, two three-storey 12-unit classroom blocks, and a 2,500-capacity multipurpose auditorium.

He further confirmed that Buipe Senior High School, which was affected by fire some time ago, will undergo rehabilitation, including the construction of an assembly hall and a new dormitory block.

At the Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School, the minister mentioned three major projects will be undertaken which include an assembly hall complex with a 2,500 capacity, a two-storey dormitory block, and a fully equipped ICT laboratory.

The minister stated the Bole Senior High School will also benefit from two additional dormitory blocks with courtyards, a two-storey Science and ICT center, a dining hall with kitchen, four semi-detached teachers’ quarters, a three-unit Home Economics block, a sickbay, and a renovated administration block.

The Savannah Regional Minister Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe commended the King and Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) and his sub-chiefs for releasing land to support these educational infrastructure projects.

He assured residents that the initiatives will transform the region’s educational landscape.

He said;
“Through the vision of the President and the support of traditional authorities, we are laying a strong foundation for the future of education in the Savannah Region”.
