President John Dramani Mahama is set to cut sod for the commencement of the much-anticipated Wenchi–Bole–Wa Road project, which spans the Bono, Savannah, and Upper West Regions of Ghana.
The official sod-cutting ceremony is expected to take place at Sawla in the Savannah Region on Wednesday 5th November, 2025.
This development was confirmed by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, on 29th October 2025, when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament to respond to questions about his ministry’s operations, projects, and financial commitments.
Responding to a question from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East, Hon. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, on whether the selected contractors could deliver the project on time, the Minister explained that the road had been strategically divided into segments to ensure timely execution.
“we deliberately broke the road into proportions that every contractor that participate should be able to complete it in twenty four months”.
He added that punitive measures would be enforced to ensure compliance.
“There would be a punitive clause that if a contractor delays in there months unjustifiably, we take the project away from him”.
Hon. Agbodza also emphasized that the contractors selected for this “Big Push” initiative are highly capable.
He said, “the calibre of contractors selected to do the ‘Big push’ have no execuse not to work”.
He assured the Committee that with proper adherence to the payment schedule, the project should be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
“we believe once the payment regime follows the contract, we should be able to complete any of them within the twenty four months period, he stated.
The Minister concluded by stating that construction had already begun in some areas.
“I must say that some of the contractors are already on site working..as a matter of fact more than 80% of them are on site working”, he said.
