Pupils of Sumpuoyiri R/C Primary A School in the Bole District of the Savannah Region are learning under dangerous conditions as the school’s oldest classroom block has deteriorated significantly, posing serious safety risks to both pupils and teachers.

The Primary A block, the oldest structure on the school compound, is said to be in a deplorable state and requires urgent rehabilitation to prevent potential disasters that could endanger lives and disrupt academic activities.

Speaking in an interview with Bole-based Nkilgi FM, the Headteacher of the school, Mr. Adams Abubakari described the condition of the block as “very bad and dangerous,” stressing that immediate intervention is needed.

He noted that the school has, over the years, educated many residents of the community and continues to play a crucial role in the area’s development.

According to Mr. Abubakari, the structure has a weak roof with several roofing sheets peeling off, while the absence of doors and windows exposes classrooms to dust and harsh weather conditions.

He explained that teaching and learning become almost impossible during the rainy season, as pupils are forced to endure leaks and strong winds. The school also faces a shortage of furniture further worsening the already unconducive learning environment.

The Headteacher has therefore appealed to the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana; the Bole District Chief Executive, Hon. Abdulai Mahmud, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, and the President of the Republic of Ghana H.E. John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene to address the challenges confronting the school.

He indicated that any delay in responding to the situation could expose pupils to grave danger and undermine their right to a safe and conducive learning environment.
