The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Savannah Region, Mr. Sinkina Saaka, has rolled out a major empowerment package for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district, aimed at promoting self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
On December 24, 2025, Mr. Saaka presented relief items and cash support drawn from the District Assembly Common Fund’s Disability Share to PWDs at a ceremony held at the Sawla Community Centre.

Addressing beneficiaries and the media, the DCE said the intervention reflects government’s commitment to inclusive governance and social protection, stressing that the initiative is designed to move persons with disabilities off the streets and empower them economically.
As part of the support, the District Assembly provided ten (10) deep freezers to boost cold-store and beverage businesses, five (5) sewing machines to promote dressmaking and tailoring skills, two (2) motor tricycles to enhance mobility and commercial activities, two (2) Motor Kings for transportation and delivery services, and two (2) laptops to support digital and office-based work.
Mr. Saaka noted that the Assembly has also introduced start-up support for PWDs through the provision of working tools and financial assistance tailored to their specific needs.
In addition, a total of ninety-one (91) persons with disabilities received cash support amounting to GH₵174,000.00 to enable them start or expand their businesses.
The DCE assured beneficiaries that funds meant for persons with disabilities would never be diverted or used to procure items they did not request, reaffirming what he described as the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama’s government to protecting the interests of vulnerable groups.

He encouraged all persons with disabilities in the district to apply for support from the Assembly, emphasizing that the funds are exclusively meant for their benefit.
The intervention forms part of the Assembly’s broader agenda to promote inclusive development and sustainable empowerment for persons with disabilities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the DCE and the District Assembly for the timely support, describing it as life-changing.
The event was attended by traditional leaders, assembly members, and representatives of organizations working with persons with disabilities.
