The Savannah Farmers Brigade (SFB) has taken a significant step toward transforming agriculture in the Savannah Region, following a well-attended General Assembly meeting held on January 17, 2026, at the Palace of the Buipewura in Buipe.

The meeting brought together members of the Board of Directors, regional and branch executives, Fulbe representatives, youth groups and small holder farmers, highlighting the growing confidence and interest in the Brigade’s vision of modern, business-driven agriculture.

Chairing the meeting was the Founder and Chief Patron of the Savannah Farmers Brigade, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, who used the occasion to outline a clear strategic direction for the organisation and the upcoming farming season.

Addressing the gathering, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II described the Savannah Farmers Brigade as a tool for economic empowerment and self-reliance for the people of the Savannah Region and urged members to abandon subsistence farming practices and embrace agriculture as a structured, large-scale business capable of creating wealth and jobs.

He further assured members of the continued support of the traditional authority, reaffirming the commitment of the Buipe Traditional Stool to secure and protect farmland for all registered members of the Brigade to ensure long-term agricultural stability.

The Chief Patron outlined the key objectives of the Brigade, with mechanisation taking centre stage. Plans are underway to establish tractor pools and shared machinery services to reduce heavy manual labour and improve productivity. He also revealed intentions to introduce modern irrigation systems to enable year-round farming and reduce dependence on rainfall.

Another major focus of the Brigade is collective bargaining. By organising farmers under a single structure, the SFB aims to negotiate better prices for quality inputs such as seeds and fertilisers, while also securing improved and stable prices for farm produce.

Beyond internal organisation, the meeting was informed of significant progress in building strategic partnerships. According to the Buipewura, high-level engagements have been held with the Minister for Food and Agriculture to align the Brigade with the government’s Feed Ghana programme and national food security agenda.

Advanced discussions have also taken place with the Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB) to establish dedicated credit facilities and equipment financing schemes for members of the Brigade. In addition, the SFB is collaborating with the leadership of the 24-Hour Economy initiative to support continuous operation of agro-processing factories in the Savannah Region, a move expected to boost value addition and job creation.

At the international level, partnership portfolios have been submitted to institutions including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and several foreign diplomatic missions, notably the European Union, seeking technical assistance and infrastructural investment.

Participants at the meeting expressed strong enthusiasm, particularly over the prospects of access to mechanised services and affordable financing. The high turnout, observers noted, reflected growing trust in the leadership and direction of the Savannah Farmers Brigade.

The General Assembly concluded with a resolution to expedite the registration of all members using official SFB forms, while the leadership was mandated to follow up on all submitted partnership proposals to ensure tangible benefits for farmers across the Savannah Ecological Zone.

The Savannah Farmers Brigade, under the leadership of Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, is positioning itself as a key driver of agricultural transformation, food security, and economic development in the Savannah Region.
