Former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Alhaji Zakaria Sulemana has urged delegates scheduled to vote on Saturday, 31st January 2026 in the party’s presidential primary to cast their ballots overwhelmingly in favour of Kennedy Agyapong.

Speaking to Bole-based Nkilgi FM, Alhaji Sulemana popularly known as Chairman Zack said the NPP could only secure victory in the 2028 general elections if Kennedy Agyapong is elected as the party’s flagbearer.

He described the former Assin Central MP as a unifier and a forthright leader capable of restoring cohesion within the party.
According to him, Kennedy Agyapong stands out as the strongest among the five aspirants contesting the slot.

Chairman Zack alleged that the party is currently deeply divided under the leadership ambitions of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claiming that several influential figures, grassroots members, and loyalists have been marginalised or even dismissed.

He further accused Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team of misleading delegates by citing the examples of former President John Agyekum Kufuor who contested twice before winning and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who made three attempts before securing the presidency to justify giving Dr. Bawumia another opportunity. He warned that such reasoning, if accepted, could keep the party in opposition for an extended period.

Chairman Zack argued that traditionally, candidates who lose internal contests but perform better in subsequent attempts usually show clear growth in support, which motivates party members.

He claimed, however, that Dr. Bawumia’s bid has instead pushed the party “back to square one,” urging delegates to exercise caution in their choice.

He also blamed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections on what he described as greed and neglect of loyal party supporters, despite having what he called all the necessary resources to win.

According to him, the party lost control of more than 148 constituencies and several Members of Parliament who were supported by Dr. Bawumia’s camp were removed from office.

Alhaji Sulemana further claimed that prominent party figures including Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Boniface Abubakari, Yaw Boabeng Asamoah, Hopeson Adorye, Boakye Agyarko, Isaac Osei, Kofi Konadu Apraku, Addo Kufuor, and Addai-Nimo have all exited the party in what he described as efforts to pave the way for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.

Touching on the party’s traditional stronghold, the Ashanti Region, Chairman Zack questioned current leadership arrangements there, rhetorically asking how the party could safeguard its base under the present circumstances.
He concluded by reiterating his call on delegates to rally behind Kennedy Agyapong, whom he believes offers the NPP its clearest path back to power in 2028.
