The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Dr. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, has donated more than 500 bags of sugar to Muslim communities across the constituency to support them during the Ramadan fasting period.Presenting the items, Dr. Sulemana said the gesture was intended to assist Muslims, particularly the needy, as they observe the holy month of fasting.
He stressed that the donation was not politically motivated but aimed at supporting fellow Muslims regardless of their political affiliation.According to him, Ramadan is a significant period in Islam and supporting one another during the fasting season is highly encouraged.“We believe that this is the time that if there is any help we can offer our Muslim brothers and sisters, we should do it. We are not doing this because someone belongs to the NDC or the NPP.
We are doing this because the person is a Muslim and deserves that support,” he said.Dr. Sulemana, who is also a Muslim, explained the importance of fasting in Islam, noting that it is one of the five pillars of the faith. He highlighted that fasting teaches discipline, self-restraint, and spiritual growth. He also used the opportunity to emphasize the shared values between Muslims and Christians, noting that both religions observe periods of fasting.
The MP disclosed that the donation was funded from his personal savings and not from any public funds such as the Common Fund or other government allocations.“This widow’s mite that I am giving out is from my own savings. It is not from the Assemblies Common Fund or any government money,” he stated.
Dr. Sulemana indicated that the sugar would be distributed through party executives and community leaders to ensure it reaches various groups including chiefs, imams, women, youth, and other Muslims across the district. He also wished Muslims a peaceful and rewarding Ramadan and encouraged those who are able to observe the fast to do so.The Bole-Bamboi Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Alhassan Kamagtey, who received the items on behalf of the party and beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the MP for the gesture.
He noted that the donation has become an annual initiative by the MP to support Muslims during Ramadan.“This is not the first time we are receiving such support from our honourable MP. Every year he donates sugar for distribution to our Muslim brothers and sisters,” he said.Alhaji Kamagtey commended the MP for using his personal resources to assist the community and prayed for blessings and increased rewards for him.He assured that the items would be fairly distributed to Muslims across the constituency to support them throughout the fasting period.
