Customers of MTN Ghana can now replace their SIM cards more easily following the launch of a new Self-Service SIM Swap initiative in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana.

The initiative was officially launched by the Chief Customer Experience Officer of MTN, Samuel Appiah, who read a speech on behalf of the Northern Business General Manager, Nii Adotey Mingle.

Speaking at the event, the Zonal Manager of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Inusah Salman Faris, the introduction of the self-service SIM swap is a significant step toward improving convenience and efficiency for telecom customers.“It is an honour and a privilege for me, as the Zonal Manager of the National Communications Authority, to join you today for the launch of the MTN Self-Service SIM Swap here in Tamale,” he said.

He noted that Ghana’s telecommunications sector continues to play a vital role in the country’s socio-economic development by supporting business growth, financial inclusion, education and social connectivity.

According to him, the NCA remains committed to promoting innovation within the communications industry while ensuring that services are delivered in a secure, efficient and consumer-friendly manner.The new MTN Self-Service SIM Swap platform will allow customers to replace their SIM cards quickly and conveniently without going through lengthy processes at service centres.

The NCA representative said the initiative would significantly enhance customer experience by reducing waiting times and making services more accessible.He commended MTN Ghana for investing in innovative solutions that respond to the changing needs of customers and align with national efforts to promote digital transformation and improve service delivery within the telecommunications sector.

However, he emphasized the need for strict compliance with regulatory requirements, particularly those relating to SIM registration and customer identification.“These measures are essential to safeguarding the integrity of our telecommunications network and protecting users from fraud and other security threats,” he stated.

He further highlighted the growing digital and economic activities in Tamale and the wider Northern Region, stressing that improving telecommunications services in the area will help support development, empower businesses and promote inclusion in Ghana’s digital economy.

The NCA congratulated MTN Ghana and its partners for introducing the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting innovations that enhance service delivery while protecting consumer interests.
