The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Damongo Constituency, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in both the Damongo Constituency and the Savannah Region to focus on creating job opportunities for the party’s youth rather than instigating them to stage unnecessary protests.
Speaking on Damongo based Kasha Fm Hon Jinapor said the youth are the backbone of the NDC, having worked tirelessly across the constituency to secure victory for the party in the 2024 general elections.
He noted that the recruitment portal for the various security services is currently open and urged government appointees under the current NDC administration to assist their supporters in accessing these opportunities — just as he did when the NPP was in power.
The MP appealed to the NDC leadership to “tone down the political heat” in the Damongo Constituency, stressing that persistent political tension only serves to cast the area in a negative light.
Describing the recent actions of the NDC youth as “needless and baseless,” Hon Jinapor accused the party’s local leadership of engaging in diversionary tactics despite knowing the appropriate channels to address their concerns.
Hon Abu Jinapor particularly condemned the protest staged by NDC youth during the commissioning of the Damongo Camp Prison, calling it unwarranted. Mr. Jinapor, however, commended President John Dramani Mahama for clarifying the distinction between the MP’s Common Fund and the District Assembly Common Fund, as well as who has the authority to allocate these resources.
It would be recalled that some aggrieved NDC youth in the Damongo Constituency petitioned President Mahama during the commissioning event on Wednesday, demanding the dismissal of the Damongo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) over allegations that he had awarded contracts to members of the opposition NPP.
In response, President Mahama speaking at the Commissioning of the Church Pentecost built Prison at Damongo, explained that an MP has full discretion over how to utilize his or her Common Fund and to select contractors deemed capable of executing projects effectively.
