The Paramount Chief of the Sonyo Traditional Area of Gonja, Sonyorwura Adamu Kanyiti (I), has called on the government to take urgent steps to address the growing unemployment crisis among the youth in the Savannah Region.

The traditional leader who is next to the King and Overlord of Gonja in terms of the Gonja Traditional Chieftaincy hierarchy made the appeal when the government’s mediation team on the Gbiniyiri conflict paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.

Expressing deep concern over the increasing joblessness in the area, Sonyorwura Kanyiti Bakari said many vibrant and talented young people remain idle due to the lack of job opportunities.

He emphasized that creating sustainable employment for the youth would not only improve their living standards but also expose them to new experiences and empower them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

Sonyowura Kanyiti (I) warned that the lack of job opportunities was fueling rural-urban migration and exposing many young people to social vices, urging government to roll out pragmatic measures to reverse the trend.

Responding to the Paramount Chief’s concerns, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Sulemana Yussif, assured that government is committed to tackling the unemployment challenge.

He noted that several interventions aimed at job creation and youth empowerment are currently underway, adding that the recent visit of former President John Mahama to the region also brought renewed attention to the urgent need for employment opportunities for young people.

The Bole MP Hon. Yussif Sulemana expressed confidence that in the coming months, both the Savannah Region and the nation at large would witness significant improvements in job creation and economic empowerment for the youth.
