The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Damongo Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has paid an emotional tribute to his maternal grandmother, Hajia Kanyiti Bakari, affectionately known as Kachekure, describing her as a woman who devoted her life to the well-being and upbringing of her family.

Hon. Jinapor delivered the heartfelt message on behalf of his siblings during the outdooring ceremony of Hajia Kanyiti Bakari, who was enskinned as the Duluwe-wurche (Queenmother of Duluwe) under the Damongo Traditional Area on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Addressing the gathering, which included Chiefs, Queenmothers, family members, and residents of the area, the Damongo MP recounted fond memories of their childhood days in Damongo, where their grandmother played an instrumental role in nurturing them.

Hon Abu Jinapor said; “She has done a lot for us. When we were growing up here in Damongo with our elder brother, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, our grandmother ensured that everything was fine for us. She was our guide, our caregiver, and our inspiration”.

The MP for the Damongo Constituency expressed profound gratitude to the Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area of Gonja Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa (I) and the Traditional Council for recognizing their grandmother’s immense contributions to the community and honoring her with such a revered chieftaincy title.

The ceremony was marked by cultural displays, traditional drumming, and dancing, attracting dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers from across the Savannah Region.

Hajia Kanyiti Bakari, now Duluwewurche Kachekure, is celebrated for her dedication to peacebuilding, community development, and women’s empowerment in the area.

Notably, she is the grandmother of several prominent Ghanaian personalities, including Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, MP for the Damongo Constituency and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor- MP for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency and Minister for Energy and Green Transition; Professor Ahmed Jinapor- Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission- GTEC and Mr. Malik Basintale- Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

The event underscored the strong family values and deep cultural heritage that continue to define the Jinapor family’s bond with the people of Damongo and the Gonja Kingdom.
