The Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area of Gonja has called for a thorough, independent and transparent investigation into the deaths of a Teacher Abu Seidu, popularly known as “Afonja,” and a Police Officer Redeemer Owusu, following recent unrest at Gindabuor in the Kong Traditional Area of Gonja.
In a public statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Kongwura Palace, Jeduah Adamu Mahama on 19th September, 2026, the Palace expressed deep sadness over the deaths and described them as a painful loss to the victims’ families, communities and the nation.
The statement acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police’s account of the circumstances surrounding Abu Seidu’s death but said questions and concerns remained among residents.
The Palace therefore urged the relevant authorities to conduct an independent investigation to establish the full facts surrounding the incidents and help maintain public confidence.
The statement from the Kongwura’s Palace also raised concerns over what it described as extensive destruction of private property in the aftermath of the events.
According to the Kongwura’s Palace, reports from affected residents indicate that homes, shops, vehicles and other properties were damaged, including property associated with the Paramount Chief’s Palace.
The statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Kongwura Palace, Jeduah Adamu Mahama added that;
“The people of Gindabour and surrounding communities deserve answers regarding how such destruction occurred and whether adequate measures were taken to protect innocent citizens and their property”
The Kongwura’s Palace said the response to the crisis should have balanced law enforcement responsibilities with the protection of lives, livelihoods and property.
The Kongwura’s Palace said seeking justice for one victim should not come at the expense of the rights and safety of other innocent citizens.
The Kongwura’s Palace also called on the Savannah Regional Security Council and other relevant authorities to review the events and determine whether earlier intervention could have prevented the escalation of tensions and subsequent destruction.
The Palace further argued that traditional authorities could have played a role in containing the situation if they had been involved at an earlier stage.
The statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Kongwura Palace, Jeduah Adamu MahamaIt urged the government, Ghana Police Service and other relevant institutions to ensure accountability and transparency, while providing appropriate compensation or support to innocent residents who suffered losses.
Despite the concerns raised, the Kongwura’s Palace appealed for calm and urged residents to refrain from violence and allow lawful investigations to proceed.
The statement said;
“The Kongwura Palace remains committed to peace, law, and order”.
The Kongwura’s Palece concluded by expressing condolences to the families of Abu Seidu and Police Officer Redeemer Owusu and called for justice, truth and reconciliation.
