A woman whose name has been withheld has been arrested by the Bole Police Command for allegedly assaulting a four-year-old child left under her care in Bole in the Savannah Region.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 21, 2026, reportedly left the child, identified as Nifatu, in critical condition and receiving medical treatment. Narrating the incident, the Assemblyman for the Mempeasem Electoral Area, Hon. Abu Hassan, popularly known as “Peace Brother,” said he discovered the child lying helplessly on the apron of his house during his daily activities.

According to him, he attempted asking the child about her name, parents, and where she lived, but the child could barely speak. He said the only information the girl managed to provide was that she attends Jakpa States Academy.

Hon. Abu Hassan explained that while preparing to report the matter to the Bole Police Charge Office and make a radio announcement to trace the child’s family, some children in the area identified her and led him to the house where she lived.

He said upon reaching the house, the woman confirmed that the child was under her care. However, neighbours allegedly informed him that the woman frequently beat the child. The Assemblyman noted that after observing the situation for some time without witnessing any abuse himself, he initially dismissed the claims and returned home.

He later discovered through his own inquiries that the child was a pupil of Jakpa States Academy, where her classroom teacher happened to be known to him. Hon. Abu Hassan said he subsequently asked neighbours to alert him anytime the child was allegedly assaulted.

According to him, residents later informed him the next day that the child was crying in pain inside the house. Before he could reach the residence, the woman had reportedly taken the child to school. The child’s classroom teacher later contacted him, informing him that the girl was bleeding seriously from multiple blade cuts on her chest and hand.

The Assemblyman said the child further alleged that the woman had used a blade to inflict the wounds and rubbed pepper into them, worsening her pain.He said he immediately rushed to the school, took the child to the police station to lodge an official complaint, and later sent her to the hospital for medical attention.

The suspect, who is reportedly breastfeeding her own baby, has since been arrested by the Bole Police Command and is assisting with investigations.

Information gathered indicates that the victim is the daughter of the suspect’s husband’s sister, who had reportedly left the child in her care while pursuing her education. The child’s mother is also said to have left behind a motorbike to assist with transporting the child to school and regularly provided money for her upkeep.Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
