The Savannah Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared a seven-day period of mourning following the passing of the Chairman of the Savannah Regional Council of Elders, His Excellency Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu.
The mourning period, which runs from August 25 to August 31, 2026, will see the suspension of all political and campaign-related activities by the party and its members across the Savannah Region.
The directive was issued by order of the Savannah Regional Secretariat and signed by the Deputy Regional Secretary, Safo Emmanuel Sadari, on behalf of the Regional Secretary.
According to the directive, the late Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu was a founding member and pillar of the NDC in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, a distinguished elder and devoted statesman who also served as a member of the National Council of State.
The Regional Executive Committee described his decades of service and contribution to the NDC, the Savannah Region and Ghana as an enduring legacy.
During the mourning period, all political-related activities involving the NDC, its executives, organs, candidates, aspirants, Members of Parliament, appointees, communicators, supporters and sympathizers have been suspended.
The directive also prohibits campaign-related communication and publicity on social media, digital platforms, print and broadcast media, with party members and supporters urged to refrain from publishing, circulating or promoting campaign-related content.
The Savannah Regional Secretariat said the directive is binding on all party leaders, executives, candidates, aspirants, MPs, appointees, communicators, members, supporters and sympathizers within the Region.
As part of the period of mourning, all official NDC flags at the Savannah Regional Party Office and other party offices across the Region are to fly at half-mast from August 25 to August 31.
The party has called on all its members and supporters to observe the period with restraint, dignity and respect while standing in solidarity with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat clarified that the seven-day mourning directive does not revoke or suspend an earlier directive restricting on-the-ground campaign activities pending the completion of the party’s Branch Reorganization and Elections processes.
It said the earlier directive remains fully in force and should be enforced alongside the new restrictions imposed during the mourning period.
The Savannah Regional Secretariat has therefore called on all party organs and members to strictly comply with the directives as the NDC mourns the loss of one of its founding pillars and senior statesmen.
