The Paramount Chief of the Bole Traditional Area, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, has highlighted the significant progress made in peace, agriculture, healthcare, education and infrastructure development in the traditional area.
The Bolewura made the remarks in his welcome address at the 2026 Bole Damba Festival on Sunday, September 6, 2026. His speech was read on his behalf by his Secretary, Haruna Abdulai Obey.
The festival brought together politicians, government officials, traditional leaders, security, residents and a delegation from neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.
The Bolewura described Damba as a festival of royalty, thanksgiving and unity, while welcoming dignitaries and the Ivorian delegation to the celebration.
He declared that the Bole Traditional Area had remained peaceful and united for nine years, attributing the achievement to the cooperation of traditional leaders and the commitment of the people to the common good.
According to him, the peace enjoyed by the area had created an environment conducive to development and prosperity, and he urged the people to continue protecting it for future generations.
The Bolewura also highlighted the growth in agricultural production across communities in the traditional area, particularly in cereals, legumes and cash crops.
He called for improved access to agricultural machinery, credit facilities and feeder roads to enable farmers and young people engaged in agriculture to expand their activities and contribute further to food security.
On healthcare, Bolewura expressed gratitude for allocating land to the Bole District Assembly for the construction of a modern District Hospital in Bole and a Polyclinic at Banda Nkwanta.
He described the projects as significant investments in healthcare delivery and commended the District Health Directorate, Medical Superintendent of the Bole District Hospital, nurses and other health workers for their years of dedicated service.
The Bolewura announced the opening of applications for the 2026–2027 Bui Power Authority Scholarship, which seeks to support brilliant but needy students from the traditional area.
He encouraged deserving students to apply through the Secretary of the Bolewura, stressing that no child with potential should be denied education because of financial difficulties.
He also announced the sixth edition of the Kutuge Feso Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The competition will involve basic schools within the Bole Traditional Area and is intended to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education at the grassroots level.
The Bolewura commended the government for the ongoing work on the Wenchi-Bole Road but appealed for the acceleration of work on roads within Bole Township.
He said internal roads are equally important to the development of the town and called for them to receive the same priority and quality of work as major highways.
He further appealed for the expansion of electricity and street lighting to Bole Township and surrounding rural communities.
According to him, improved electricity and street lighting would enhance public safety, support businesses and create more opportunities for women and young people to extend their productive activities.
The Paramount Chief also called on Parliament to remove restrictions and interference affecting the Chiefs’ Delegates Act.
He argued that traditional institutions should be allowed to operate with independence, dignity and respect, stressing that chieftaincy matters were best handled within traditional structures without undue political interference.
The Bolewura further appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana to support the construction of a befitting and modern palace for the Bole Traditional Area.
He described the palace as the heart of the people and the seat of their culture, history and traditional governance.
He said a modern palace would reflect the greatness, dignity and heritage of the Bole people and appealed to the President to help make the vision a reality.
Responding to the request, the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Dr Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, pledged to pursue the construction of the proposed palace through President Mahama.
Dr Sulemana said the project was important and required collaboration among the traditional authorities, his office and the government.
He therefore appealed to the traditional authorities to make available a suitable site for the proposed palace to enable the necessary processes towards its construction to begin.
He assured the gathering of his commitment to advancing the proposal and working with President Mahama to provide Bole with a palace befitting its traditional status and heritage.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm from the gathering.
The 2026 Bole Damba Festival consequently served as both a celebration of the cultural heritage of the Bole people and a platform for highlighting development priorities and strengthening collaboration between traditional authorities and government.
