The Savannah Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Mr. Salisu Be-Awuribe, has led the Inspector- General of Police (IGP), senior officers of the Ghana Police Service, and members of the Regional and District Security Committees to the Gindabour community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District following a recent violent incident in the area.
The visit, which took place on Friday, September 18, 2026, followed a joint closed-door meeting of the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Security Committee (DISEC) at the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly.
The meeting deliberated on the death of a teacher at Gindabour, which was subsequently followed by the tragic lynching of a police officer.
The delegation, which included REGSEC and DISEC members, accompanied the IGP and senior police officers to the community to obtain first-hand information and assess the situation on the ground following a series of security briefings on the incident.
Addressing the situation, the Savannah Regional Minister assured the Ghana Police Service and other investigative bodies of the Regional Coordinating Council’s full readiness to provide all necessary support, within the confines of the law, to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly investigated.
He said all persons found culpable must be brought before the appropriate authorities to face justice.
Mr. Be-Awuribe described the incident as deeply disturbing and said it was inconsistent with the peaceful nature and traditions of the people of the Savannah Region.
He called for a comprehensive, impartial and professional investigation to establish the facts, identify the root causes of the incident and ensure that due process is followed.
The Savannah Regional Minister further admonished security personnel deployed to the community to exercise maximum professionalism, restraint and respect for the law in the discharge of their duties.
He stressed the importance of close collaboration between the security agencies and the Gindabour community in restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and preventing any further escalation of tensions.
Mr. Be-Awuribe reiterated that there must be no room for mob justice, reprisal attacks or any form of violence.
According to him, persons who commit criminal acts must be dealt with through established legal processes, while every effort must be made to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The Savannah Regional Security Council, he said, remains committed to supporting the security agencies to uncover the truth, uphold the rule of law and protect the people of Gindabour and the Savannah Region.
The Council also reaffirmed its commitment to working with all relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace and security in the affected community.
