The Bole Branch of Jackson University College (JUC) has celebrated its Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week with a colourful float through parts of the Bole Township.
The celebration, which took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, brought together students and staff of the institution for a procession aimed at promoting unity, student engagement and the visibility of the college within the community.
The float began at the Bole Post Office and passed through several key locations, including the Bolewura’s Palace, Mango Lane and the Bole District Assembly. The procession ended at the court area, popularly known as Agaabuto.
During the celebration, Nkilgi FM engaged the Coordinator of Jackson University College, Mr. Dankla Luke, who highlighted the institution’s commitment to providing accessible higher education to people across the country.
According to Mr. Luke, Jackson University College is an open institution that provides opportunities for people who wish to further their education.
He noted that education remains an essential part of life and stressed that Jackson is an established institution that has trained many teachers, including some currently working in Bole and surrounding communities.
Mr. Luke explained that Jackson University College has a nationwide presence, with 32 branches across the country.
He therefore encouraged prospective students to see joining the institution as becoming part of a national educational community.
He mentioned some of the programmes offered by the institution, including Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Basic Education and Junior High School programmes in areas such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mathematics and English.
the Coordinator of Jackson University College, Mr. Dankla Luke further disclosed that the institution also offers various Master’s programmes online, allowing students to pursue higher education from the comfort of their homes.
Among the postgraduate programmes he mentioned are Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Mathematics, MPhil in English, MPhil in Guidance and Counselling, and MPhil in Administration, among others.
Mr Luke urged residents of Bole and the Savannah Region to take advantage of the presence of Jackson University College in Bole and build their educational careers on a solid foundation.
The Coordinator of Jackson University College explained that the establishment of the Bole centre has reduced the need for residents to travel long distances to other parts of the country in search of higher education.
He added that Jackson University College was initially established in Tamale, Wa and Bolgatanga, while the institution has its main campus in Kumasi. The institution was established in 2009, making it 17 years old, while the Bole branch was established in 2023.
According to him, the Bole centre provides students with access to quality education comparable to what is offered at the institution’s other locations.
Nkilgi Fm spoke to the Student Representative Council (SRC) President of Jackson University College, Mr. Vaglikoori John, who outlined some of the achievements recorded during his tenure.
Mr. John mentioned the successful organisation of the 2026 SRC Week celebration as one of the achievements of the student leadership. He also cited the students’ participation in activities marking Ghana’s Independence Day on March 6, 2026.
He said the SRC leadership is also working to mobilise students and undertake initiatives aimed at promoting and uplifting the name of Jackson University College.
According to Mr. John, Jackson University College is among the leading tertiary institutions in the three northern regions, particularly because of some specialised programmes offered by the institution that are not readily available at other institutions in the area.
He further highlighted the institution’s emphasis on Information and Communication Technology, saying ICT has been made compulsory for students in response to the demands of the modern world.
Mr. John explained that, in addition to their main academic certificates, graduates of Jackson University College receive an additional ICT certificate.
He described this as a unique advantage, noting that students in some other institutions may have to study ICT as a separate course before obtaining a related certificate.
The SRC President also praised the quality and qualification of lecturers at Jackson University College, saying their expertise contributes significantly to effective teaching and learning.
The SRC Week celebration ended with students and staff reaffirming their commitment to promoting the growth and visibility of Jackson University College in Bole and the wider Savannah Region.
