The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has indicated that the party may prevent contests against some incumbent Members of Parliament (MP’s) in its upcoming parliamentary primaries.

He cited the Damongo Constituency, represented by former Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor, and the Karaga Constituency, represented by former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, as examples of constituencies where such arrangements could apply.

According to Mr Boadu, several other constituencies may also be considered under similar arrangements.

Thr NPP National Chairman explained that the party needs to increase its representation in Parliament to strengthen its chances in the next presidential election.

The NPP currently holds 87 of the 276 parliamentary seats, he said, stressing the need for the party to improve its performance.

Mr John Boadu argued that the party could not continue doing the same things while expecting different results.

He said the NPP was undertaking a candidate search initiative announced by its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as part of efforts to identify candidates for upcoming elections.

The NPP National Chairman John Boadu further suggested that some party members opposing the candidate search formula might have personal political interests, particularly those who intend to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

The remarks raise questions about how the NPP will balance its proposed candidate search process with the participation of party members seeking to challenge incumbent MPs.
