The Paramount Chief of the Busunu Traditional Area, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II, has renewed calls on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise key development projects for Busunu, including the establishment of a STEM Girls Senior High School, the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre to a polyclinic, and expanded employment opportunities for the youth.

The Paramount Chief made the appeal on Saturday, December 27, 2025, during a grand durbar held to climax the Busunu Homecoming Ceremony, which brought together indigenes, residents, and friends of Busunu from across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II described the occasion as a significant milestone in the re-unification of the Busunu community, noting that the homecoming rekindled a spirit of unity first initiated more than three decades ago.

The program was held under the theme “Thriving Together: One Community, One Shared Responsibility,” which the chief said reflected the peaceful coexistence of the various ethnic groups in Busunu, including Hanga, Vagla, Gonja, Sissala, Chakosi, Dagaba, Fulbe, Gurma and Moshi communities.

The Paramount Chief recalled that during President Mahama’s previous administration, an E-Block Senior High School had been approved for Busunu in late 2016 but could not be executed following the change of government.

He disclosed that a 25-acre parcel of land has already been secured for the project and welcomed recent reports that a consultant had visited the site to assess it for the construction of a model STEM Girls Senior High School.

Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II appealed to the President to include the Busunu project among the first batch of new Senior High Schools to be procured, proposing that the school be named Maame Nneba Girls Senior High School in honour of a distinguished daughter of the land and also the biological mother of President John Dramani Mahama.

The chief also renewed his request for the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre into a polyclinic with a maternity ward and theatre, reminding the President of a similar appeal made during an earlier visit to the palace.

In addition, he called for the establishment of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution at Murugu to equip young people with employable skills and reduce rural-urban migration.

Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II further urged government to revive plans for a Police Training School on a parcel of land previously allocated along the Tamale road, stressing that its development would encourage traditional authorities to release more land for public projects.

He also appealed for the consideration of qualified youth from the Busunu Traditional Area in ongoing recruitment into the security services and other state institutions.

The Paramount Chief highlighted efforts by the community to complement government development initiatives, citing the construction of a multi-purpose community centre funded through charcoal royalties. He said the ground floor of the facility is completed and in use, while an appeal will soon be launched to complete the upper floor.

In his concluding remarks, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II commended the planning committee for successfully organising the homecoming event and acknowledged the presence and support of dignitaries, including the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Mutawakilu Adam, Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, as well as Members of Parliament from the Savannah Region.

He expressed gratitude to all guests and contributors and prayed for peace, unity, and development for Busunu.
