The Savannah College of Education (SABAG) in Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region has immortalised the late former Northern and Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, by naming one of its student residential facilities “Limuna Hall” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and public service.
The announcement was made during the first anniversary memorial (Adua) of the late statesman in Damongo, where college authorities presented a citation of honour to his family before an audience comprising traditional leaders, government officials, family members, and dignitaries from across the Savannah Region.Presenting the citation on behalf of the college’s management, staff, and students, the institution paid glowing tribute to Alhaji Limuna’s instrumental role in advancing the growth and recognition of the college.
According to the citation, one of his most significant interventions came on March 20, 2025, when he led a delegation from the Yagbonwura, Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, to meet the President of the Republic. The engagement was pivotal in accelerating the government’s formal absorption of the college and facilitating the release of long-delayed student allowances.The college further recalled that during a period of student unrest over delays in the institution’s absorption, Alhaji Limuna took decisive steps to engage the relevant authorities, helping to secure a breakthrough at a critical moment.”His commitment was never merely symbolic. When Savannah College of Education needed a voice, he stepped forward and stood firmly with the institution.
His intervention became a turning point in our journey,” part of the citation read.In recognition of his enduring impact, the college formally renamed one of its residential halls Limuna Hall, describing the gesture as a lasting tribute to a leader whose life was dedicated to service, education, and the development of people.The citation was presented to the bereaved family in during the one year anniversary of Alhaji Limuna’s passing in Damongo.
Hon. Ali Bakari Kassim Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the family described the honour as a fitting recognition of a man whose greatest wealth was the lives he transformed.
“Alhaji Limuna often described himself as the richest politician not because of material possessions, but because of the people he had impacted. Today’s honour is a reflection of that legacy,” he said.
Hon. Ali Bakari Kassim expressed profound appreciation to the management of Savannah College of Education led by the Principal Dr. Musah Akpampo for the honour bestowed on the late minister. He assured the institution of the family’s continued support towards the college’s growth and development.
