Member of council of state and paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area, Mankpanwura Jakpa Achor-Ade Borenyi I has demonstrated compassion and leadership by supporting inmates and staff of the Damongo Camp Prison in the Savannah Region with a donation of food items and cash ahead of the eidul-fitr celebration.

The gesture carried out on Wednesday, March 18, 2025, reflects the Mankpanwura’s commitment to humanitarian service and the welfare of vulnerable groups within society.

Represented by Dripewura Matuge Amu and a delegation of traditional leaders some community leaders of the Mankpan traditional area, the Mankpanwura presented ten bags of rice, two gallons of cooking oil and an undisclosed sum of money to support the feeding of the inmates during the festive period.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of the Mankpan traditional area, Chief Dripewura emphasized that the donation was meant to ensure that inmates, despite their circumstances, could also partake in the joy and dignity of Eid celebrations.

The donation is expected to significantly ease the burden on prison authorities, particularly in the area of feeding. With daily feeding allocations still considered inadequate, such contributions play a vital role in improving nutrition, boosting morale, and promoting the well-being of inmates.

Access to adequate food not only supports physical health but also contributes to the rehabilitation process by fostering a sense of care, inclusion and hope.

Receiving the items, the Chief Superintendent of Prisons and acting Officer-In-Charge of the Damongo Prison Camp Siekure A. Amatus expressed deep appreciation to the Mankpanwura for his generosity. He noted that the donation would go a long way in supporting the inmates and bringing relief to the facility.

Beyond the immediate impact, the Mankpanwura’s act serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to support correctional facilities, especially newer ones like the Damongo Camp Prison, which continue to face logistical and resource challenges.

The Mankpanwura’s intervention highlights the powerful role of traditional leadership in community development and social responsibility, reinforcing the importance of compassion and collective support in building a more inclusive society.
