President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to accelerating development in the Savannah Region, outlining a series of transformative interventions during the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Gonjaland Youth Association in Buipe.

Addressing a large gathering of the youth, traditional leaders and stakeholders, President Mahama emphasized that education remains central to his administration’s development agenda. He announced plans to establish modern STEM schools in Tinga and Busunu, expand infrastructure across Senior High Schools and upgrade selected Category B institutions to Category A status.

“Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be,” the President stated, underscoring the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills for national transformation.

Beyond education, President Mahama unveiled plans to construct a modern sports stadium in the Savannah Region to promote youth development and sporting excellence. He also reiterated government’s intention to establish 24-hour economy markets in every district, a move aimed at boosting local businesses, creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities, particularly for the youth.

The event also provided a platform for key stakeholders to present development concerns. The National President of the Gonjaland Youth Association, Alhassan Baba Darison, called for the creation of additional districts and the upgrading of existing ones to municipal status to enhance administrative efficiency and accelerate development.

In a related appeal, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, urged government to intensify efforts to curb illegal mining activities along the Black Volta.

He reaffirmed the traditional authority’s commitment to environmental protection and preserving ancestral heritage, while also appealing for support to facilitate the construction of the Mpaha Junction to Debre road, currently under procurement.

President Mahama’s participation in the golden jubilee celebration highlighted his administration’s broader vision of inclusive development, with a strong focus on education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment in the Savannah Region
