The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has revealed a potential discovery of oil in the Savannah Region of Ghana during a stake holder meeting with journalist and other media personnel in the Savannah Region on the 13th of April 2026 in the Savannah Regional capital, Damongo.

As part of it’s core mandate as established under section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act(PRMA), 2011, to provide additional oversight on the management and use of Ghana’s Petroleum Revenue and also accountability to the people, PIAC held this year’s annual report in the Savannah Region.

Speaking at the meeting on the highlights of 2025 PIAC Annual report, Mr. Isaac Dwamena, the executive secretary, mentioned numerous challenges faced by the Ghana Petroleum sector over the years hence leading to fluctuations and that regardless all the shortfalls, the country has made a lot of gains from the sector.

He added that the government’s flagship ‘Big Push’ program which is sort to bridge the nation’s infrastructure gap will benefit from the Petroleum Revenue.With a budget of Ten billion US dollars, targeted at Two billion US dollars annually over a five years period, to improve on transport, energy agriculture and others.

In addition, he said “we are gradually running out of oil since it’s a nonrenewable resource, but the good news also been that we have discovered Oil in the Savannah Region and for certain reasons, the location cannot be disclosed for now”Mr. Isaac Dwamena again added that the country cannot solely depend on Petroleum sector but must look for other renewable energy sources or Green energy sources.

Speaking to Nkilgi FM, madam Sena Daake, a representative of the institute of chattered accountants Ghana on PIAC also emphasized on the purpose of PIACs establishment especially with regards to it’s mandate of supporting the public to independently assess, monitor and safeguard Petroleum resources for generations to come.She also called on government to implement 52 percent of it’s recommendations other than just 32 percent.
