Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Hon. Raphael Kumah Abolasom, has initiated legal action against the party’s Constituency Chairman, Mr. Mohammed Abubakari Bilfu (Alias Tico), over alleged defamatory statements.

A writ of summons filed at the High Court in Damongo indicates that Hon. Abolasom is seeking legal redress after what he describes as a sustained campaign of false allegations, character assassination and reputational damage allegedly orchestrated by the Constituency Chairman.

According to the former parliamentary candidate, Mr. Bilfu has, over a prolonged period, used various political platforms and public engagements to make what he describes as unsubstantiated allegations, cast aspersions and spread falsehoods aimed at tarnishing his image and undermining his political standing within the party.

Hon. Abolasom contends that the Chairman’s actions were intended to expose him to public ridicule, erode the confidence of party members in his leadership, and diminish his future political prospects.

The latest incident, which reportedly prompted the legal action, is an alleged audio recording in which Mr. Bilfu is said to have made fresh allegations against the former parliamentary candidate while touring the constituency as part of his campaign for re-election as Constituency Chairman.
Believing that the alleged statements have caused significant harm to his reputation and political career, Hon. Abolasom has turned to the courts in an effort to clear his name and seek appropriate legal remedies.

The writ, filed at the High Court in Damongo on 9th July 2026, requires the defendant to enter an appearance within eight days after being served, failing which the court may proceed to determine the case in his absence.

The case is expected to attract considerable attention within the NPP in the Savannah Region, as it involves two prominent figures in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency and comes at a time when the party is preparing for internal reorganization and future electoral contests.

The allegations contained in the lawsuit are those of the plaintiff and are yet to be determined by the court. Mr. Mohammed Abubakari Bilfu will have the opportunity to respond to the claims through the judicial process.
