MTN Ghana has announced plans to deploy 80 new network sites across the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and North East Regions as part of a major investment programme aimed at improving connectivity and service quality across the country. The announcement was made at a stakeholder engagement held in Tamale as MTN Ghana marked its 30th anniversary of operations in Ghana.

Under the plan, the Northern Region will receive 38 new sites, while 17 will be deployed in the Savannah Region, 14 in the Upper East Region and 11 in the North East Region.
The company said the regional expansion forms part of a broader commitment to invest US$1.1 billion over the next three years, including approximately US$380 million in 2026, to enhance network capacity, improve service quality and strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure.
MTN Ghana also indicated that its nationwide expansion programme targets a total of 500 cell sites.
Addressing media partners, stakeholders and MTN employees at the engagement, the company said the investment was driven by the growing demand for reliable connectivity and the need to ensure that communities across Ghana benefit from the opportunities created by digital technology.

According to MTN Ghana, its network currently connects more than 32 million subscribers across the country, making connectivity a critical part of Ghana’s social and economic development.
The company acknowledged that its 30-year journey had not been without challenges, noting that there had been periods when network coverage and service quality fell short of the expectations of communities.
It said the lessons from those experiences had strengthened its commitment to listening to customers and stakeholders and continuously improving its services.
Beyond telecommunications, MTN Ghana said it was increasingly positioning itself as a partner in Ghana’s digital and socioeconomic transformation.
The company highlighted the growth of its Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, noting that transaction value increased by 44.4 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026.
Active MoMo users grew by 3.1 percent, while transaction volumes and MoMo revenue each increased by 23.3 percent over the same period.

MTN Ghana said the figures demonstrated the growing importance of digital financial services to households, individuals and businesses across the country.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to cybersecurity and data privacy, stressing that the protection of customer information had become increasingly important as more Ghanaians embraced digital services.
On its financial performance, MTN Ghana reported a strong first half of 2026, with service revenue growing by 32.3 percent to GH¢15.0 billion.
EBITDA increased by 47.1 percent to GH¢9.3 billion, with the EBITDA margin improving to 61.8 percent, while profit after tax rose by 46.8 percent to GH¢5.1 billion.
MTN Ghana also disclosed that it paid GH¢5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes during the first half of 2026, in addition to GH¢384.7 million in fees and levies.
The company said the financial performance was important because a strong and sustainable business enables it to continue investing in network infrastructure, jobs and community development.
Through the MTN Ghana Foundation, the company continues to implement interventions in education, health and economic empowerment.
Among the initiatives highlighted was the MTN Skills Academy, which seeks to equip more than 100,000 Ghanaian youth with digital skills, financial skills, career readiness training and mentorship.
The company also said its Bright Scholarship Scheme had supported more than 1,200 Ghanaian students, providing assistance including school fees, hostel fees and laptops.
MTN Ghana further announced significant enhancements to its Heroes of Change initiative, with the overall winner’s prize increased from GH¢100,000 to GH¢400,000.
Winners in the three categories will each receive GH¢200,000, while finalists will receive GH¢100,000.
The company has also introduced special awards for sustainability and digital innovation.
As part of its community engagement activities, MTN Ghana said its employee volunteers had worked with 16 basic schools across all 16 regions under its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programme.
In the northern part of the country, beneficiaries included Zogbeli Cluster Block A JHS in the Northern Region, Damongo Girls Model School in the Savannah Region, Walewale Catholic School in the North East Region and Bolgatanga Preparatory Model School in the Upper East Region.
MTN employee volunteers also supported community health screening exercises, including activities at Sawla District Hospital and Anigazanga Hospital.
The company acknowledged that challenges including affordability, digital literacy, access and relevant skills continued to limit the extent to which some communities could benefit from technology.
It therefore called for continued collaboration among government, regulators, educational institutions, development partners and communities to bridge Ghana’s digital divide.
MTN Ghana also reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda, anchored on four pillars: Doing for People, Doing it Right, Doing for Growth and Doing for the Planet.
The company launched its 2026 Sustainability Month on August 3 under the theme “Small Actions, Big Impact.”
As MTN Ghana marks three decades in the country, the company said it remained committed to expanding connectivity, empowering communities and creating opportunities that would contribute to Ghana’s long-term development.
It expressed appreciation to the media, government, regulators, customers and communities for their partnership and support over the past 30 years.
The company said its journey remained closely connected to Ghana’s development and pledged to continue playing its part in building a more digitally connected and inclusive economy.
