Residents of several communities in the Damongo Constituency are set to benefit from improved electricity access following the commissioning of rural electrification and electricity extension projects aimed at accelerating socio-economic development and enhancing livelihoods.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor; the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe; the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah; the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro; and other government officials and community leaders.
The project, which commenced in 2023, has successfully extended electricity to the communities of Seyiri, Kpiri, Frafra No. 6, and Jebito, while electricity expansion works have also been completed in Damongo Azurekura, Atributo No. 1, Atributo No. 2, and the Damongo Cathedral area.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor described reliable electricity as a critical driver of development, noting that access to power improves living standards, supports businesses, strengthens education and healthcare delivery, enhances security, and creates new opportunities for economic growth.
He expressed confidence that the completed projects would transform the beneficiary communities by attracting investment, creating jobs, and improving the overall quality of life for residents.
The Damongo MP also emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable development, stressing that communities benefit most when leaders put aside political differences to pursue a common goal.
“When a community works together, and when the NDC and NPP work together, it is the community that benefits. This is exactly what Damongo has demonstrated,” he stated.
Hon. Abu Jinapor thanked the Savannah Regional Minister and the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition for their support in ensuring the successful completion and commissioning of the projects, reaffirming his commitment to championing development initiatives that improve the welfare of the people of Damongo.
The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to achieving universal electricity access across the Damongo Constituency.
He announced that additional communities would soon be connected to the national grid through ongoing government interventions, including the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) and mini-grid projects for hard-to-reach communities.
According to him, expanding electricity access remains a key priority of the government’s development agenda, as reliable power will stimulate economic growth, support agro-processing, improve education and healthcare, attract investment, create employment opportunities, and enhance the quality of life of residents.
He assured residents that the Ministry would closely monitor all ongoing electrification projects to ensure they meet the required standards and are completed on schedule. He also pledged continued collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to identify more underserved communities for future electricity projects.
Hon. Gyan-Mensah stressed that no community in the Damongo Constituency would be left behind in the national electrification drive, describing reliable electricity as a cornerstone of sustainable development and socio-economic transformation.
The newly commissioned electricity infrastructure is expected to improve access to essential services, stimulate local businesses, enhance security, and accelerate development across the beneficiary communities in the Damongo Constituency.
