The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to education and youth development with the commissioning and handing over of a modern Guidance and Counselling Centre to Damongo Senior High School (DASS).
The state-of-the-art facility, constructed through the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund, is aimed at strengthening student welfare by providing professional guidance and counselling services, career development support, emotional assistance, and psychosocial care in a secure and student-friendly environment.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the school’s administration forecourt, brought together traditional leaders, government officials, education stakeholders, security agencies, students, and members of the public to celebrate what has been described as another landmark contribution by the Yagbonwura towards improving education in the Gonja Kingdom.
Headmaster of Damongo Senior High School, Yakubu Ibrahim S., described the project as a historic milestone in the school’s development and praised Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I for his visionary leadership and sustained investment in education.
According to him, the facility reflects the King’s belief that quality education extends beyond academic excellence to include the emotional, psychological, and personal well-being of students. He assured the Yagbonwura that the school would maintain the facility and ensure it serves its intended purpose of supporting students facing academic, emotional, social and personal challenges.
Savannah Regional Director of Education, Mr. Bright A. Lawoe, also commended the Yagbonwura for what he described as a transformational investment in the future of young people.
He noted that the Guidance and Counselling Centre aligns perfectly with the Ghana Education Service’s new Guidance and Counselling Framework, which seeks to strengthen career guidance, psychosocial support, child protection, life skills development, inclusive education and parental engagement in schools.
Mr. Lawoe emphasised that the facility provides the privacy and conducive environment required for effective counselling and will play a significant role in nurturing confident, resilient, and responsible students.
On behalf of the Ghana Education Service, he expressed profound appreciation to His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I and the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund for creating what he described as a lasting educational legacy that will benefit generations of students within the Gonja Kingdom and beyond.
The event was attended by the King and Overlord of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I, the Savannah Regional Minister, officials of the Ghana Education Service, personnel of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Prisons Service, members of the School Board and PTA, representatives of the Gonjaland Youth Association, officials of the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund, teachers, students, development partners and other distinguished guests.
The newly commissioned Guidance and Counselling Centre is expected to serve as a vital support hub for students, reinforcing Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I’s enduring legacy of championing education, character development, and the holistic growth of young people across the Gonja Kingdom.
