Patricia Asiedu Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat, has urged Ghanaians to stop insulting President John Dramani Mahama over his failure to arrest US-based Ghanaian commentator Kevin Taylor when he recently visited Ghana.
In a video shared on Facebook and sighted by Nkilgi FM, Nana Agradaa waded into the ongoing debate about why Kevin Taylor was allowed to move freely in the country without being arrested.
According to her, she has observed that many people, especially members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are aggrieved that Kevin Taylor was not picked up by security agencies upon his arrival.
She said the NPP members are complaining that Kevin Taylor was supposed to be arrested because he had consistently insulted the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, Samira Bawumia.
Nana Agradaa noted that despite those alleged insults, no action was taken against him, which has led to public outcry from sections of the public.
She disclosed that some people have even alleged that personnel of the National Security were protecting Kevin Taylor while he was in Ghana.
Reacting to those claims, Nana Agradaa said she does not see anything wrong with that, arguing that protection alone does not warrant an arrest.
She explained that as far as she is concerned, nobody has officially gone to the police station to lodge a complaint or filed a case in court against Kevin Taylor.
According to her, without a formal complaint or a court case, there is no legal basis for the state to arrest him.
She added that even if President John Dramani Mahama wanted to take action, he can only do so when the due process is followed and a formal case has been made against him.
Nana Agradaa therefore cautioned Ghanaians to desist from insulting President Mahama over the matter, since the President cannot act arbitrarily without a reported case.
She stressed that so long as no one has reported Kevin Taylor to the police or to the courts, no one should complain that he came to Ghana and was not arrested.
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing with her position while others insist that Kevin Taylor should have been held accountable for his utterances.
