The National Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) has condemned the violence at Gindabour in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District that led to the deaths of community member Seidu Abu and General Constable Redeemer Owusu.
The association has called for a full, independent, transparent and impartial investigation into the two deaths, as well as reports of subsequent violence, destruction of property, gunshots and the displacement of residents.
In a statement signed by its National President, Al-Hassan Baba Darison, on 19h September, 2026, the Gonjaland Youth Association expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and communities of the two deceased persons.
The association said it was particularly concerned about the mob attack that resulted in the death of General Constable Owusu, while also expressing concern over reports of violence and destruction that allegedly followed the incident.
The GLYA said it had received reports of vandalism involving properties belonging to the Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area, Kongwura Seidu Adamu Jinkurige I.
The youth association urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure that security personnel deployed to the area exercised maximum restraint, professionalism and respect for the rights of civilians.
“Security operations must not result in further fear, destruction or collective punishment,” the association said.
The GLYA called for anyone found culpable in connection with the deaths or subsequent violence to be dealt with according to law, regardless of whether the person was a civilian or a security officer.
It also appealed to traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm and refrain from retaliation or actions that could further escalate tensions in the affected communities.
The association said its immediate priorities were peace, justice, accountability and the protection of innocent lives and property.
“GLYA mourns with the bereaved families and calls on all stakeholders to work together to restore peace and confidence in the affected communities,” the statement said.
The association concluded by extending its condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of Seidu Abu and General Constable Redeemer Owusu.
