Residents and business owners at Jakala Extension in Bole town have expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Hon. Dr. Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, for facilitating the installation and commissioning of a new high-capacity electrical transformer in the area.
Residents had been experiencing persistent low voltage and erratic power supply, which affected household activities and local businesses. The installation of the new transformer is expected to improve power stability and provide more reliable electricity to the community.
The GH¢200,000 intervention, facilitated through the persistent lobbying and follow-ups of the Bole-Bamboi MP, has increased the area’s electricity infrastructure from one transformer to two, thereby expanding the capacity of the local distribution network.
The commissioning follows numerous complaints from community members about persistent low voltage and unreliable power supply.
In response, Hon. Dr. Yusif Sulemana undertook several engagements and follow-ups with power authorities, resulting in the procurement and deployment of a 100KVA transformer, together with a specialised installation team from the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) Regional Office in Wa.
Pre-installation testing and the formal commissioning of the transformer took place on September 15, 2026, after technical assessments confirmed that the installation met the required grid specifications.
Speaking during the installation, Mr. Adam Sulley Bantasi, Technician Supervisor for NEDCo in Bole and its environs, explained that the addition of the new transformer would help ease the load on the existing facility and improve electricity supply to the area.
He said, “When a transformer fails, the whole neighbourhood suffers,” and urged residents to report electrical faults, dangling tree branches and deteriorating electricity poles promptly so that technical teams could respond quickly.
Mr. Bantasi explained that the existing 200KVA transformer previously served the area extending to the location of the newly installed unit.
He said the new 100KVA transformer would relieve the existing transformer of part of its load and would be sufficient to serve its designated catchment area.
While the new installation is expected to bring relief to residents, NEDCo officials have emphasised the need for continued investment in electricity infrastructure to keep pace with Bole’s growing population and increasing power consumption.
The Bole township currently relies on approximately 105 transformers serving various suburbs, although additional units are still needed to meet the growing demand for electricity.
To help address the infrastructure gap, the NEDCo Bole office is pursuing grant proposals aimed at expanding and improving power distribution in the area.
Addressing other operational challenges, the NEDCo official urged residents to desist from engaging unauthorised electricians to undertake repairs during power disruptions.

He further cautioned against tampering with transformer fuses, explaining that such actions could compromise the equipment’s protective mechanisms and expose transformers to serious damage, resulting in costly and difficult replacements.
