The Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Imoro Seidu, popularly known as “Man Blessing,” has officially declared his intention to seek re-election as Regional Chairman of the party.
Alhaji Imoro made his intention known when he spoke to the media at his residence in Sawla in the Savannah Region on 18th September, 2026.
Explaining his decision to contest the position again, the NDC Chairman for the Savannah Region said he had undertaken consultations with key stakeholders within the party, including President John Dramani Mahama, party elders, and the various constituencies across the region.
According to Alhaji Imoro, before arriving at his decision, he personally consulted President John Dramani Mahama to seek his advice on whether he should contest the chairmanship position again. He said the President emphasized the importance of ensuring that the NDC remains in government beyond the 2028 general elections.
Chairman “Man Blessing” stated that President Mahama told him that the party must work hard to win and retain political power in 2028.
According to him, the President further stressed that achieving this objective would require a Regional Chairman who is active, committed, and capable of mobilizing the necessary resources to strengthen the party’s structures and electoral prospects.
He said, based on the advice he received from President Mahama, he decided to put himself forward once again for the chairmanship position.
Alhaji Imoro also disclosed that he had consulted the elders of the NDC in the Savannah Region as part of his preparations and subsequently extended his consultations to all seven constituencies in the region
He disclosed that the feedback he received from the constituencies gave him the confidence to declare his intention to contest.
Alhaji Imoro said, all seven constituencies have assured him of their support and encouraged him to seek another term as Regional Chairman.
Reflecting on his tenure, Alhaji Seidu said that when he assumed office as Regional Chairman, the NDC had three parliamentary seats in the Savannah Region and attributed the party’s subsequent gains to the collective efforts of the regional executives, constituency executives, parliamentary candidates, grassroots members, and other stakeholders.
He said the party has since increased its parliamentary representation in the region and that the Damongo constituency remains the outstanding parliamentary seat that the NDC hopes to capture.
Alhaji Imoro expressed confidence that the party can make further gains in Damongo, but acknowledged that achieving this objective would require greater effort and strategic organization.
According to Alhaji Imoro, he told the President that Adam Mutawakilu Garlus was not a weak candidate, but that the party needed to provide him with stronger institutional and political support to improve the NDC’s chances of winning the constituency.
He further stated that, as part of his advice to the President, he suggested that the NDC’s candidate in Damongo should be given a government appointment. He explained that, in his view, such an appointment would provide an opportunity to strengthen the candidate’s visibility and position ahead of the next election.
Alhaji Imoro claimed that President Mahama subsequently acted on the advice and appointed the candidate to a government position.
He expressed the view that the development would strengthen the party’s efforts in the constituency and described the Damongo parliamentary seat as one that the NDC is well positioned to pursue in the next election.
As he begins his campaign for another term as Savannah Regional Chairman, Alhaji Imoro Seidu is presenting his record, consultations, and stated commitment to expanding the NDC’s parliamentary representation as key reasons for his decision to seek re-election.
His declaration now sets the stage for the internal contest for the leadership of the NDC in the Savannah Region, as the party prepares its structures and grassroots organization for the 2028 general elections.
