The race for the Savannah Regional Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gathered momentum following the submission of nomination forms by incumbent Regional Chairman Alhaji Imoro Seidu, popularly known as Man Blessing, and Ing. Abdul Nasser Adam.

Alhaji Imoro Seidu submitted his nomination forms at the party’s regional office in Damongo on Thursday, October 14, 2026, while Ing. Abdul Nasser Adam had earlier on Wednesday 13. 2026 filed his forms.

The two aspirants have outlined their respective visions for the party, with the incumbent highlighting his leadership record and electoral achievements, while Ing. Adam is calling for a renewed leadership approach focused on strengthening grassroots structures and improving the region’s representation at the national level.

Before submitting his nomination forms, Alhaji Imoro Seidu visited Larabanga in the West Gonja Municipality to seek prayers and blessings from the Chief Imam and his council of Mallams.

The Larabanga Imam offered special prayers for the incumbent chairman and expressed confidence that Allah would grant him victory in the upcoming regional chairmanship contest.

Alhaji Imoro also interacted with party supporters and faithful in the community.

He subsequently proceeded to the Jakpa Palace to pay homage to His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I), King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, where he sought blessings from the traditional ruler and his council.

The Surpeme Imam of the Gonja Kingdom Yagbon Imam Sheik Alhaji Kassim Abdulai also prayed for him and blessed his endeavour before he continued to the NDC Regional Office in Damongo, accompanied by party elders and a large number of supporters, to formally submit his nomination forms to the Regional Elections Directorate.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Alhaji Imoro expressed confidence in his chances of retaining the chairmanship, saying he had previously contested and won the position convincingly.

He attributed the party’s progress in the region to his leadership and hard work, arguing that his record demonstrated his commitment to strengthening the NDC in the Savannah Region.

According to him, one of the key achievements under his stewardship was the party’s victory in six out of the region’s seven parliamentary constituencies.

Alhaji Imoro maintained that the regional party remained peaceful and would continue to uphold that atmosphere throughout the internal electoral process.

He urged all aspirants to submit their nomination forms and campaign freely, without fear or favour, as the party prepares for the regional elections.

Ing. Abdul Nasser Adam, who previously contested for the position of Regional Secretary in 2022 but lost to the incumbent, Salisu Issifu Be-Awuribe, has called for significant improvements in the organisation and leadership of the NDC in the Savannah Region.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination forms in Damongo, Ing. Adam challenged the suggestion that the party’s electoral successes in the region could be attributed to one individual.

“We all brought the government to power,” he said, emphasising that the party’s achievements were the result of collective efforts by members at all levels.

He expressed concern about what he described as non-functional constituency offices, inactive branches and weaknesses in the party’s organisational structures.

According to him, the NDC must not confuse its current position in government with the achievement of its broader political and developmental objectives in the Savannah Region.

Ing. Adam argued that the party needed leadership capable of mobilising members, strengthening grassroots participation and ensuring that the region received greater attention in national decision-making.

“Savannah has to go to the capital. Savannah doesn’t have to remain Savannah,” he stated, calling for a more assertive approach to advancing the region’s interests in Accra.

The aspirant said his experience within the party, from the branch level through constituency structures to the regional level, had equipped him with the necessary knowledge and exposure to improve its organisation and performance.

He urged delegates to assess his candidature based on his competence, experience, commitment to accountability and ability to advance the interests of both the party and the region.

On the nomination process, Ing. Adam said his team had fulfilled the requirements for filing and expressed confidence that his forms would pass the party’s verification process.

He explained that electoral officials would verify the membership status of those who endorsed his nomination, adding that his team had already conducted its own checks.

With the nomination process underway, attention is turning to the next stage of the internal elections, including the vetting of aspirants.

Ing. Adam said he was preparing for vetting scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, expressing confidence that he would successfully complete the exercise and proceed to the regional elections.
