Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has celebrated 30 years of operations in Ghana with a renewed commitment to expanding digital access, strengthening infrastructure and supporting national development through technology and innovation.

The company officially launched its 30th anniversary celebrations on May 14, 2026, at MTN House in Accra under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.” The event brought together government officials, industry stakeholders and members of the media, including the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett described the anniversary as more than a corporate milestone, saying it represents a shared Ghanaian journey of connection, inclusion and progress over the past three decades.“This is not just about towers and cables. It is about people — farmers, traders, students, nurses and entrepreneurs whose lives have been transformed by the ability to connect,” he said.

According to Mr. Blewett, the company is preparing for the next phase of Ghana’s digital economy through significant investments in fibre expansion, core network modernisation and advanced technologies aimed at boosting innovation, productivity and economic growth across sectors.He noted that technology is increasingly becoming central to national development, stressing that digital platforms will continue to transform agriculture, education, healthcare, trade and the creative industry.“The next phase of Ghana’s development will be built on mobile platforms on farms, in markets, in clinics, classrooms and creative studios.

Technology will remove geography as a disadvantage and open Ghanaian talent to the world,” he stated.Mr. Blewett further highlighted sustainability as a key pillar of the company’s long-term strategy, with investments in renewable energy solutions, resilient networks and responsible technology use designed to balance growth with environmental stewardship.

Reflecting on the company’s journey since 1996, he pointed to the impact of Mobile Money in deepening financial inclusion and supporting millions of households and small businesses across the country.He added that MTN Ghana continues to contribute significantly to national development through tax payments, network expansion and social interventions implemented by the MTN Ghana Foundation in areas such as education, health, skills training and economic empowerment.“Connectivity is no longer a luxury. It is essential national infrastructure and MTN Ghana has a responsibility to ensure it is reliable, inclusive and future-ready,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Samuel Nartey George congratulated MTN Ghana on reaching the 30-year milestone, describing the company as a major player in Ghana’s evolving telecommunications industry.He said Ghana’s telecom sector has grown into a modern, mobile-first and data-driven ecosystem serving millions of subscribers, with MTN playing a leading role through innovations such as GSM technology, Mobile Money services and continued investments in network infrastructure.

The Minister also commended the company for its listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange and its position as one of the country’s largest corporate taxpayers.He assured that government would continue collaborating with industry players to tackle challenges including rural connectivity, infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, digital skills development and environmental sustainability.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, MTN Ghana announced a series of nationwide customer promotions and activities, with prizes to be won in appreciation of customers who have supported the company over the past 30 years.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to its Ambition 2030 strategy, which focuses on expanding opportunities, empowering young people and positioning Ghana to compete strongly in the global digital economy.
