The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, has donated a 250kVA standby generator to the Bole District Hospital to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and improve healthcare delivery in the district.
The donation follows concerns raised by the hospital’s management over the absence of a standby generator capable of powering the entire facility. Until now, the hospital relied on two separate generators during power outages, a situation that often created operational challenges.
Presenting the generator to the hospital, Hon. Sulemana commended the management and staff for their dedication despite the numerous challenges confronting the facility.
“I have been monitoring the activities of the Bole Hospital, and we can see with certainty that the staff are putting in their best despite all the challenges,” he said.
He explained that the newly acquired 250kVA generator would replace the existing dual-generator arrangement by providing sufficient power to the entire hospital through a single system.
The MP disclosed that the generator was procured through personal efforts and support from friends and associates, stressing that it was not financed from his Common Fund allocation or the National Health Insurance Fund.
“This generator is not coming from my Common Fund, and it is not coming from my National Health Insurance Fund. It is from my own sources by lobbying my friends and colleagues because we want to use our relationships to help our communities rather than for personal gain,” he stated.
Hon. Sulemana further acknowledged that installing the generator would require additional resources. He announced that he had discussed the issue with the District Chief Executive and pledged to contribute a substantial portion of the installation cost while encouraging the hospital management to support the remaining expenses to facilitate its swift installation.
The MP also provided updates on other health interventions in the district, revealing that the hospital’s new ambulance is expected to arrive soon. According to him, the contractor working on the ongoing hospital infrastructure project has indicated that roofing works will commence shortly, expressing optimism that the facility would be ready for commissioning within the next few weeks.
Receiving the generator on behalf of the hospital, the Medical Superintendent of the Bole District Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Abesig Wadiyir, described the donation as a major milestone in addressing one of the hospital’s longstanding challenges.
Dr. Wadiyir recalled that since assuming office in 2022, the lack of a large-capacity standby generator had consistently featured among the hospital’s annual operational challenges.
“This is one of the most difficult challenges that has confronted this hospital for years. Since I joined in 2022, we have never had a generator capable of powering the whole hospital. Today, that challenge has become history,” he said.
He praised the MP for responding promptly to the hospital’s request, noting that less than a month after management presented their concerns, significant progress had already been made.
Dr. Wadiyir also confirmed that the new ambulance promised by the MP is expected to be cleared on August 4, after which medical equipment will be installed before it is deployed for service.
According to him, the additional ambulance will significantly improve emergency response, particularly during periods when multiple critical patients require simultaneous referrals.
He recounted a recent incident where two critically ill patients needed emergency transfer, but the hospital had only one ambulance, resulting in disagreements among relatives over which patient should be transported first.
“We need another ambulance now more than ever. With this additional ambulance, we will be able to transport critically ill patients promptly and provide the emergency care they deserve,” he noted.
Dr. Wadiyir also expressed appreciation for the MP’s commitment to supporting the installation of the generator, describing it as a timely intervention given the hospital’s financial constraints.
He assured the MP that the generator would be maintained and used solely for the benefit of patients and the wider community.
Describing the equipment as a high-quality machine, Dr. Wadiyir prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the MP for his support to healthcare delivery in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency.
“Anytime power goes off and this generator comes on, the hospital staff, patients and the entire community will remember you in our prayers,” he said.
