The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Dr Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, has announced the establishment of a GH¢1 million education trust fund to support students from the Bole area pursuing mining-related programmes.
Dr Sulemana made the announcement on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when he addressed traditional authorities, dignitaries and residents at the 2026 Bolewura’s Damba celebration.
He said the initiative was part of his commitment to ensuring that the mineral resources found in the area translate into meaningful opportunities for the people, particularly the youth.
According to the MP, the fund will support qualified students who gain admission to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) or other universities to pursue courses related to mining, engineering and environmental studies.
Dr Sulemana said his office would assist qualified students with securing admission and would personally take responsibility for their school fees and other educational expenses from their first year until completion.
He further promised to support beneficiaries to undertake their national service with mining companies and assist them in securing employment after completing their studies.
Dr Sulemana stressed that the GH¢1 million commitment would come from his personal resources and not from the GETFund or the MP’s Common Fund.
He said a committee, including some traditional leaders, would be constituted to administer the fund and ensure that beneficiaries are selected and supported fairly.
The MP also emphasized that the initiative would be open to all qualified sons and daughters of the area irrespective of their political affiliation.
He urged qualified students seeking to pursue mining-related programmes to submit their admission documents to his office for consideration.
Dr Sulemana said the initiative was particularly important because the Bole area is endowed with mineral resources, and the people should benefit from those resources through education, skills development and employment opportunities.
