The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency and Deputy Minister Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon Dr Alhaji Yusif Sulemana has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a people-centred party and encouraged young people who had joined the partu to remain committed to the party and serve with integrity.
Drawing from his personal experience, he said he came from a modest background, with his father working as a farmer and tractor operator and his mother as a trader.
The MP for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency who was the Savannah Regional Chairman of the NDC Youth Working Committee said his journey from that background to becoming a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister demonstrated that young people from ordinary families could rise to positions of responsibility through dedication and perseverance.
Dr. Yusif Sulemana also cautioned party members against attempting to maintain political allegiance to both the NDC and NPP, saying those who refused to take a clear position would ultimately struggle to gain the trust and recognition of either side.
The Deputy Minister recounted his own experiences as a TEIN member while he was a student at university around the year 2000, when the NDC was in opposition.
He said organising political activities for the NDC on campus at the time was difficult, with posters advertising meetings allegedly being removed by security personnel.
According to him, TEIN members eventually resorted to unconventional methods to publicise their meetings, including writing meeting information on campus roads with chalk early in the morning before vehicular movement began.
He said their persistence eventually helped them build a strong presence on campus.
The Bole MP said his experience had taught him that perseverance and commitment could eventually yield results, adding that his own political journey was evidence that hard work could be rewarded regardless of a person’s background.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Sulemana challenged the newly inaugurated TEIN executives to work hard and remain united to help the NDC retain political power.
He assured TEIN members that the party recognised the importance of student activists across the country and urged them to reach out whenever they needed support.
He further called on the new Damongo TEIN leadership to strengthen the branch and mobilise students ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Sulemana expressed confidence that the NDC would retain power, describing the party as honest, truthful and people-centred.
Dr. Sulemana made the comments at the inauguration, swearing-in and handing-over ceremony of the new TEIN Damongo College of Agriculture and Allied Sciences on 3rd October, 2026.
The event brought together NDC Regional and constituency executives, including the Savannah Regional Chairman Alhaji Imoro Seidu Man Blessing and other Regional executives, the Damongo Constituency Chairman Mr Sulemana Abdulai aka Trouble and other constituency executives.
Other Dignitaries at the programme include Mr Mahama Haruna- Presidential Aide in the office of the Minister for Special Initiatives, Alhaji Inusah Mahama- Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Alhaji Sule Osman- Deputy CEO Anti- Doping Agency of the Ministry of Sports and others.
The MP for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency thanked the organisers of the ceremony and congratulated the newly inaugurated executives, urging them to serve diligently and contribute to the development of the party.
